1. Overview
Shopping List by CJ ("we", "us", "our") is a shopping list app built for shoppers at Aldi, Coles and Woolworths in Australia. This policy applies to our website at shoppinglistbycj.app and to the Shopping List by CJ Android app (together, the "Service").
We built Shopping List by CJ to be simple and useful without collecting more than we need. This policy sets out, in plain language, what we collect, why, and what control you have over it. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
2. Information we collect
We collect information in three ways:
Information you provide directly
- Your name and email address, if you join our early access list or contact us for support.
- The shopping lists, items, prices, budgets and favourites you create inside the app.
- Any feedback, survey responses or bug reports you choose to send us.
- If you submit a rating or review on our Feedback & Reviews page: your star rating, your written feedback, and your name if you choose to include one. We also briefly retain the submitting IP address, purely to limit repeat/automated submissions — it isn't published or linked to your review. Submissions are reviewed before publishing; once approved, your rating, review text and name (or "Anonymous shopper" if none was given) are displayed publicly on that page. Don't include anything in a review you wouldn't want shown publicly.
Information collected automatically
- Basic device information, such as device type, operating system version and app version, used for troubleshooting.
- Anonymised usage data, such as which features are used, to help us understand what's working and what isn't.
- Standard website analytics, such as pages visited and general location at a country or city level, when you browse shoppinglistbycj.app.
Information we don't collect
- We do not collect payment card details. We are not a payments provider and don't process purchases at supermarkets.
- We do not access your device contacts, photos or precise GPS location unless a future feature explicitly asks for your permission first.
3. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate and maintain your shopping lists, favourites and budget tracking inside the app.
- Send early access invitations and important updates about the app, if you've asked to join our list.
- Respond to support requests, feedback and bug reports.
- Understand how the Service is used, so we can fix issues and improve features.
- Keep the Service secure and prevent misuse.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to serve third-party advertising.
4. Data storage and security
Where the app stores data on your device, it stays on your device unless you choose to enable sync or back it up through your Google account, in which case standard Android platform protections apply.
Where information is stored on our servers, such as early access sign-ups, feedback and ratings, or account data for future features, we use reputable hosting providers and take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect it against unauthorised access, loss or misuse. Feedback and ratings submitted on our Feedback & Reviews page are stored using Cloudflare's infrastructure (the same provider that hosts this website). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep your information appropriately protected.
5. Third-party services
We may use trusted third-party services to help operate the Service, such as website analytics, form processing for early access sign-ups, and, in future, cloud storage for account sync. These providers only receive the information needed to perform their function and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
If you choose to support the app financially through our Buy Me a Coffee link, that transaction is handled entirely by Buy Me a Coffee and its payment processor, Stripe. We don't receive or store your payment card details, and we only see the information Buy Me a Coffee chooses to share with creators, such as your support message and the amount contributed. Shopping List by CJ is an independent app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to Aldi, Coles or Woolworths. Store and product names are used for descriptive purposes only, to help you organise your shopping.
6. Your rights and choices
Under Australian privacy law, and as a general practice, you can:
- Ask us what personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct inaccurate or out-of-date information.
- Ask us to delete your personal information, such as removing you from the early access list.
- Unsubscribe from early access or update emails at any time, using the link in any email we send.

7. Children's privacy
Shopping List by CJ is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we'll remove it.
8. Data retention
We keep personal information only for as long as it's needed for the purposes described in this policy, such as while you remain on our early access list or have an active account, or as required by law. You can ask us to delete your information at any time, as described above.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Shopping List by CJ grows and new features are added. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page from time to time.
